5-day Holter (continuous ECG) – ROOTI monitor
You may require a continuous holter monitor if your doctor suspects there may be issues with your heart rate or rhythm. Symptoms that could indicate the need for monitoring include:
- Fainting
- Dizziness
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain
- Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
Even if you've had an ECG, a Holter monitor may still be necessary. ECGs only capture your heartbeat for a brief period, which might not be sufficient to detect underlying problems.
Holter monitoring is a safe and painless procedure with minimal risks. Some individuals may experience slight skin irritation from the adhesive electrodes used during the test.
Preparation for a Holter monitor is minimal, but you will need to shower beforehand. Once the monitor is fitted, it cannot get wet or be removed. Depending on your hair length, you may need to shave your chest to ensure the electrodes adhere properly.
The Holter monitor test is a simple process:
- Electrodes are applied to your chest.
- These electrodes are connected to a small Holter monitor device.
- You’ll receive post-fitting instructions
While wearing the device, you will need to:
- Keep it on during your normal activities.
- Wear it at all times, including while sleeping.
- Avoid removing it.
- Maintain a diary of your daily activities, noting the times you did them.
- Record any specific symptoms you experience, such as dizziness, light-headedness, chest pain, or shortness of breath.
On the 6th day, you’ll return to your doctor’s office with your diary.
Once the results get finalised, we will then send them to your GP who will then recommend whether you need to see a cardiologist for further assessment.
