5-day Holter (continuous ECG) – ROOTI monitor In Gold Coast
Your doctor may recommend a continuous Holter monitor if they suspect irregularities in your heart rate or rhythm. Some symptoms that may indicate the need for monitoring include:
Fainting
Dizziness
Shortness of breath
Chest pain
Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
Even if you've already undergone an ECG, a Holter monitor might still be required. Since an ECG records your heartbeat for only a short duration, it may not always detect underlying heart issues.
Holter monitoring is a safe, painless procedure with minimal risks. In some cases, individuals may develop mild skin irritation due to the adhesive electrodes used during the test.
Preparing for a Holter monitor requires minimal effort, but you should shower beforehand. Once the monitor is attached, it must remain dry and cannot be removed. If you have excessive chest hair, shaving may be necessary to ensure the electrodes adhere properly.
The Holter monitor test is a simple process:
- Electrodes are applied to your chest.
- These electrodes are connected to a small Holter monitor device.
- You’ll receive post-fitting instructions
While wearing the device, you will need to:
- Keep it on during your normal activities.
- Wear it at all times, including while sleeping.
- Avoid removing it.
- Maintain a diary of your daily activities, noting the times you did them.
- Record any specific symptoms you experience, such as dizziness, light-headedness, chest pain, or shortness of breath.
On the 6th day, you’ll return to your doctor’s office with your diary.
Once your results are finalised, we will send them to your GP, who will determine whether you need to consult a cardiologist for further evaluation.
